Maria Fatima (Carvalho) Monteiro, 86 of Hudson, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017 surrounded by her adoring family, at River Terrace Nursing home after a period of declining health. She joins her husband of thirty years Antonio Monteiro in heaven, who predeceased her on December 20, 1981.
Maria Fatima is survived by her son, Jose Monteiro and his wife Celestina of Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal; two daughters, Natalia Bairos and her husband Armando of Clinton and Nelia Santos and her husband Alexandre of Hudson; seven grandchildren, Jose Antonio Monteiro, Victor Monteiro, Catarina Monteiro, Tony Bairos, Amanda Bairos, Christine Santos and Michael Santos; five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Antonio, she was also predeceased by her parents, Bernardino Carvalho and Maria Conceicão Braga; two sisters and five brothers.
Maria Fatima was born on October 27, 1930 in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal the youngest of eight to Bernardino Carvalho and Maria Conceicão Braga. She married the love of her life Antonio Puim Monteiro in October of 1952, and together they raised their family in Santa Maria until immigrating to Hudson on June 15, 1981. Shortly after coming to the United States Maria Fatima lost her husband, but she remained in Hudson to be close to her daughters and grandchildren.
Maria Fatima was a devoted homemaker and she dedicated her life to taking care of her family. True to her Portuguese heritage she was an amazing cook and her sweet breads were rivaled by none. She also enjoyed gardening and crocheting. Most of all Maria Fatima loved spending time with her family and taking care of her grandchildren. She was a loving and caring person and her beautiful smile will be forever missed by all who knew her.
A period of visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 29, 2017 at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St. Hudson, MA, 01749. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Saint Michael’s Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, MA 01749 followed by a procession to Saint Michael’s Cemetery for final committal Services and burial.
