WESTBROOK, MAINE/WEBSTER, MA – Walter S. Baird, 91, a Westbrook resident for over 50 years, died Sept. 15 in Matulaitis Nursing Home, Putnam, CT. His wife of 34 years, Ruth (Norcross) Baird, died in August 14, 1986.
He leaves 2 sons, Roland A. Baird of Webster, MA and Leon L. Smith of Gray, Maine; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
He was born and raised in New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Harvey and Gertrude (Sherwood) Baird. He moved to Westbrook in 1944 and lived there until moving to Webster in 2002. He graduated from Winthrop High School in Winthrop, Maine.
Mr. Baird worked in a shipyard in Portland during World War II. He then was an oil burner technician for the Harris Oil Company until retiring in 1979.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Westbrook. He enjoyed lending a helping hand to others.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, October l, in the Blais Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
