Frances Louise (Vittitoe) Mulhall, 86, passed away at home in her sleep on May 1, 2017. She was the loving and devoted wife of Delbert Mulhall for 67 years.
Born in Louisville, KY on August 22, 1930, Louise—as she was known to all—was the oldest daughter of Sue Cecil and Chester Vittitoe, one of 7 children, four of whom survive her: Ed, Norma, Anthony, and Don. She was preceded in death by her bothers Jerry and Mike. She was a graduate of Ursuline High School and worked before marriage as an office secretary. After marriage she was a full-time homemaker until becoming bookkeeper and office manager for Delbert Mulhall & Sons, a position she held until death.
Louise (also known affectionately as Big Lou, Grandma, Grandmere, and Nana) and Delbert had 10 children, all of whom survive—Dale (Kathy), David (Karen), Daniel (Kathleen), Darrel (Kim), Delbert, Jr. (aka Sonny) (Linda), Lisa Yankowy (Steve), Douglas (Donna), Laura Farmer (Paul), Don (Christy), and Dean (Teresa), 26 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary, attended plays, recitals, and graduations, and rooted for her children’s success. She loved gathering with the entire family on every possible occasion, even as the number of family members grew beyond the house’s ability to hold them, despite numerous additions.
Louise was a lifelong Catholic and was very devoted to her faith. She remained active in parish life until ill health forced her to slow down. She read the Scriptures daily, participated regularly in a charismatic prayer group, and was religiously faithful to her bunco group, which was active for more than 50 years.
Visitation will be held at Owen Funeral Home 5317 Dixie Highway on Thursday, May 4 from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated for Louise at St. Peter the Apostle Parish, 5431 Johnsontown Rd, on Friday, May 5 at 10 am. Burial will follow immediately at Calvary Cemetery.
