Joseph Giacalone, age 87, Of Medford formerly of Boston“s North End, passed away September 12th, at the Courtyard Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Josephine (Firicano). Born in Italy he was the son of the late Pasqua (Rallo) and Marco Giacalone.
Mr. Giacalone worked most of his life as a commercial fisherman owning and operating his own boat from the Boston Fish Pier for over fifty years. Following his retirement from commercial fishing he owned and operated the Glendale Sub Shop in Everett for a few years. Joseph was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida.
In addition to his wife Josephine, he is survived by his children, Patty Firicano of Methuen, Josephine Hilaire of Lynn and Marco Giacalone of Medford. He is also survived by nine loving grandchildren and eight loving great grandchildren. He is furthur survived by his brother Diego Giacalone of Medford, sisters, Rose Parisi of Revere and Anna Moschella of Ipswich. He is predeceased by his brother Angelo Giacalone.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main St. Medford, Friday, at 8 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St. Medford, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
