Obituary

Carolyn G. Saccone, 89, of Hingham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at Pat Roche Hospice in Hingham on April 1. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Frank H. Saccone. She leaves her three sons, David Saccone and his late wife Mary Ann, Donald Saccone and his wife Lynne, and Scott Saccone and his wife Nancy. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Vanessa, Lauren and Isabel, and one very special great-grandchild Lily Mae. Carolyn also leaves her brother Anthony Sulmonte. She was predeceased by her sister, Ann Rand.

Carolyn and Frank together lived remarkable lives. They were part of the young generation that lived through World War II and began their lives after its end. Born in the neighboring towns of Boston, they lived for a short time in Florida and returned to Massachusetts to live in Scituate. Carolyn raised two young children and worked to help her husband through night school which would enable him to become a CPA. Frank would eventually become the accountant of the great boxer Rocky Marciano. They moved to Abington, Massachusetts and, during the forty year span they lived there, had a third son and embarked on several successful business ventures including oil and gas companies, a manufacturing business and the restoration of the famous Toll House Restaurant in Whitman, MA. Carolyn and Frank ran the Toll House from 1972-1984 where Carolyn led the design and decoration, coordinated its numerous weddings and served as hostess throughout. One of the great joys in Carolyn’s life was working with the many brides and grooms and always making sure their special day was indeed special.

Throughout her life, Carolyn’s great love was her family. There were always cookouts and holiday get-togethers at the house. When the Toll House opened all her extended family would be invited to the parties. And later in life when she and Frank lived in Boston, family and friends would crowd into their condo on July 4th and New Year’s Eve, enjoy the food and friendship, and marvel at the fireworks on the doorstop. Carolyn and Frank eventually retired to Naples, Florida for many happy years until Frank passed away in 2007, after which Carolyn lived peacefully for ten years at Linden Ponds in Hingham, Massachusetts.
