Estella T. Brooks, 100, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, September 10, 2005 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at Glory United Methodist Church, Alapaha, Georgia. Interment will follow in Glory Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Brooks was born on December 28, 1904 in Polk County, Florida to the late James R. and Bertha Vogler Thornton. She had lived in Fitzgerald since 1988. She began her teaching career in Florida after passing the teachers’ examination following her graduation from high school. She taught in various Florida schools before moving to Berrien County in 1940. She attended North Georgia College and received her degree in 1955. She taught school in Berrien County until retirement in 1970 from Alapaha Elementary School. She was a member of the Ben Hill-Irwin Retired Teachers Association and the National Teachers Association. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Brooks is survived by 3 sons: Rev. Allen Brooks, Nashville, GA, David F. Brooks, Leesburg, GA and Walter Brooks, Fitzgerald, GA; 6 Grandchildren; and 7 Great Grandchildren.
