Obituary


WINDHAM, NH: Mildred A. (Collins) Bates, age 94, a former longtime Tewksbury, MA resident and retired Tewksbury Public School teacher, died Monday, September 5, 2005 at her home in Windham, NH.
She was the wife of Russell W. Bates, who died January 19, 2004.
Born in Lowell, MA on October 18, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary A. (Hankinson) Collins.
Mrs. Bates was raised in Lowell.
She attended Lowell schools and graduated from Lowell High School. Following graduation, she attended Lowell Teachers College, where she received her B.A. Degree in Education.
Mrs. Bates resided in Tewksbury for 54 years until moving to Windham, NH in 2004.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed for many years as teacher at Tewksbury’s North Street School and the former Foster School. Mrs. Bates previously taught in the Town of Mendon Public Schools.
Mrs. Bates was a member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church of Lowell.
She was a member of the Acacia Chapter #80 Order of Eastern Star and the Windham, NH Red Hat Society.
Mrs. Bates enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter; Deborah B. Walsh and her husband James of Windham, NH; three grandchildren; Michael B., Brian J. and Elizabeth W. Walsh all Windham, NH;
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 17th at 10 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Interment will follow at the Tewksbury Cemetery. At the request of the family there are No Calling Hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Portsmouth/Derry /Salem Hospice, One East Commons Drive, # 31, Derry, NH 03038 are requested.
