Obituary

WORCESTER-Joseph F. Black, Jr., 79, of 73 Downing Street, died suddenly Tuesday, September 6th in UMass Hospital. He leaves 2 brothers; Philip M. and his wife Catherine Black and Russell E. and his wife Barbara Black both of Worcester, many nephews and nieces.

He was born in Worcester the son of Joseph F. and Flora H. (Merrick) Black and was a graduate of South High School. Mr. Black was a WWII Navy veteran, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He later attended the Vesper George School of Art in Boston. Mr. Black was employed for many years as a draftsman working for several local companies. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church where he served as an usher. Mr. Black was an avid collector with a broad area of interest regarding the items he collected and was a railroad hobbyist.

The funeral is Friday, September 9th, from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Peter’s Church, 929 Main Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, September 8th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the UMass Foundation, Heart Directive, P. O.
