WEBSTER – Alois B. “Bernie” Reich, 77, of Christopher Heights, died Wednesday, September 7, in Hubbard Regional Hospital. His wife of 35 years, Florence C. (Szczepaniak) Reich, died in 1985.
He leaves 3 sons, Robert M. and his wife Debra L. Reich, Thomas B. and his wife Deborah S. Reich, all of Webster and Bruce A. Reich and his fiancé Diane Perkins of Millbury; a brother, John Reich; a sister, Elizabeth Piechowiak, both of Webster; 2 granddaughters, Stephanie and Jessica Reich; nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Clarence Reich, William Reich, Jr., and Richard Reich.
He was born in Webster, a son of William and Gertrude (Melzer) Reich, and was a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Saint Louis High School and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Reich was a window clerk with the United States Post Office for 40 years, retiring in 1990. He was affectionately known as “the whistling clerk.” He was a member of Saint Louis Church and the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council. He enjoyed bowling, sports, whistling and was an avid train enthusiast.
The funeral, with full military honors, will be held, Saturday, September 10, from Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main St., with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake St. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley.
