FALMOUTH -- Doris Dreher Bruce, 99, of Atria Woodbriar Assisted Living Facility in Falmouth and formerly of Fairhaven, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, of natural causes at Harborside Healthcare Center. She was the widow of William Bruce.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Bertha Dreher.
She was a graduate of Bridgewater State College and received her master's degree in education at Boston University.
Long active in education, she retired as director of guidance at Fairhaven High School.
Mrs. Bruce was very involved with the American Field Service Program, a past president of the YWCA in New Bedford, a former camp director and the last surviving charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority. Over the years, she was involved with many other community organizations.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Bruce Negus, and her husband, Richard M., of Cotuit; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday,September 8, 2005, in Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 635 Purchase St., New Bedford. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Fairhaven.
