BRIDGEWATER - Antonio R. Chaves, 81, of East Bridgewater, formerly of Azores, Portugal, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2005, at Caritas Norwood Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Adeline (Bastista). Chaves.
Born and raised in Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Virginio Soares de Chaves and Philomena (de Rego) Chaves.
Over in the Azores, Mr. Chaves served in their Army and was employed as a mason for many years.
He came to this country a short time ago, prior to that, he made his home in the Azores.
In addition to his wife Adeline, he is survived by his children, Maria H. Sousa and Henriqueta B. Braga, both of Taunton, Jose B. and Antonio B. Chaves, both of East Bridgewater; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the Wales-Prophett Funeral Home, 35 Spring St., East Bridgewater, Thursday at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. John Church, East Bridgewater, at 10 a.m.
Visiting hours are Wednesday from 5-9 p.m.
Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.
