Robert L. Pitty, age 91, of Bridgewater, died peacefully, March 7, 2017 at Sachem Center for Health and Rehabilitation following a period of failing health. Bob was the husband of the late Teresa M. (Zechello) Pitty. Born and raised in South Boston, he was the son of the late Charles and Aldina (Silva) Pitty. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy serving in the European and Pacific Theatres. Following the war, he worked as a fisherman and longshoreman and retired from the US Post Office in South Boston Annex after 38 years. He was a member and President of Motor Vehicle Service Local 25 in Boston. He had been a resident of Brockton for many years before moving to Bridgewater in 1996. He enjoyed cruises and watching sports.
Bob is survived by his children Robert Pitty and his wife Ann of Weymouth, Richard, Brian and his wife Beverly and John Pitty all of Brockton and Anna Marie Gomes and her husband Joe of Bridgewater; a grandson Nicholas Holmes and his longtime girlfriend Nicole Nickerson; a niece Noreen Finn; four additional grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a sister Doris Carver of Hopkinton and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Charles and Milton Pitty, Mildred Cannizarro, Corrine Lenane and Gertrude Lydon.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Sunday 3-5pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 9:30am followed by burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery.
