Obituary

Myrtle P. Purvis, 93, of the Gladys Community, Berrien County, Georgia, died Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, March 3, 2017, at Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church, in Irwin County, with the Rev. George Carroll Paulk officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends, Thursday evening, from 6 PM until 8PM, at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mrs. Purvis was born March 27, 1923, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late James & Mary Elizabeth Brantley Purvis. She lived in the community all of her life and was a homemaker and a farm wife. She was a very hard worker and a good cook that will be remembered for her layered chocolate cakes. Mrs. Purvis loved her family dearly. She was a member of Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughter-in-law, Clara Jo Purvis of Albany and a son-in-law, Robert Langley of Lake Park; grandchildren: Wanda Kay Lamb & Frank of Sylvester, Janet M. McMullen & Greg of Valdosta, Elaine Strickland & Paul of Lake Park, Jim H. Purvis & Becky of Columbus, Roger Purvis & Katherleen of Gladys and Michael D. Purvis & Melinda of Gladys; great-grandchildren: Chad Moore, Dee Knighton, Jay Moore, Jamie Purvis, Bailey Purvis, Whitney Adams, Kaitlyn Spencer, Kathy Arrington, Christopher Purvis, Jayden Purvis and Alexis Purvis; 10 great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary Jim Roberts of Ocilla. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Purvis; a daughter, Betty Ruth Wilkinson; two sons Wayne Purvis and Jimmy Purvis; three sisters and three brothers.
