Betty Jean Cooley, 78, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, September 3, 2005 at Fitzgerald Nursing Home in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Monday, September 5, 2005 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with Rev. Stanley Norman and Rev Edgar Byrd officiating. Interment will follow in Frank Cemetery, Irwin County. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Cooley was born December 15, 1926, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late Reason Hansel and Edna Louise Cody Whitley. She had lived in the community since 1995 coming from Warner Robins. She was a homemaker and together with her late husband, Dolyphus, served Houston and Ben Hill Counties as a foster parent. She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Cooley is survived by her children: Rudolph Cooley of Moultrie, Dennis Cooley of Eatonton, Richard Cooley of Warner Robins, Wayne Cooley and Rosie Rodgers, both of Fitzgerald, and Chris Cooley of Cropwell, AL; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters: Bernice Helms of Abbeville, Carolyn Stone and Bobbie Brown, both of Fitzgerald; and one brother: Ronnie Whitley of Tifton. She was preceded in death by her husband: Dolyphus D. “Buddy” Cooley.
