Obituary

WORCESTER-Francis P. Callahan, 75, of 14 Ashburnham Rd. died Tuesday, August 30 at home surrounded by his family.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Florence L. (Naumiec) Callahan; three sons, Michael J., Daniel S. and James E Callahan all of Worcester; three daughters, Deborah Callahan Holmquist, Paula F. Callahan and Lynn M. O’Connor all of Worcester; a sister Patricia Dumas of Worcester; seven grandchildren, Erin Callahan Lambert, Lisa A. Melkonian, Katelyn A. Melkonian, Shawna A. Callahan, Michael P. Callahan, Ryan F. O’Connor and Seamus M. O’Connor; two great grandchildren, Kayleigh A. Russell and Ellery J. Russell, nieces and nephews.

He was born in Norwood the son of James C. and Florence (Clemente) Callahan and graduated from St. John’s High School. He was a Marine Corp. veteran of WW II where he was stationed at Paris Island. Fran was a Worcester Police Officer for many years before retiring. He was a member of the Main South American Legion Post # 341, Alahambra Council Knights of Columbus #88, the Worcester Retired Police Association and was a Holy Cross Football enthusiast.

The funeral will be Friday, September 2 from the CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at noontime in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 600 Cambridge St. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, September 1 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to UMass Memorial Home Health & Hospice, 650 Lincoln St., Worcester, MA 01605.
