Obituary

Daniel Joseph Gorman, a 2 year resident of Montross, Virginia, and former 37 year resident of San Francisco, California, died in his home on Friday August 19, 2005, following a long battle with cancer. He was 71 years old.

Danny was born in Boston and moved to Cork City, Ireland, with his family for a brief time. His family then moved back to Allston, Massachusetts, where he grew up. He attended St. Anthony’s Parochial School in Brighton, MA, and graduated from St. Columbkille High School in Brighton, MA. Following graduation Danny enlisted into the United States Navy in January of 1952. He served during the Korean Conflict and was discharged in April of 1956. In 1965 he moved to San Francisco, CA, and was employed for many years by the City of San Francisco as a painter. Most of his career was spent painting the Golden Gate Bridge. He retired in 2002 and moved to Montross, Virginia.

Danny is the son of the late David and Margaret (Kelleher) Gorman. He is the devoted brother of Anastasia “Ann” Reynolds of Newton, Ellen “Eily” Stankevicius of Walpole and the late James and John Gorman. He is the loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. Danny is also survived by Karen and George Austin of Montross, Virginia.

Danny’s Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2005, in Sacred Heart Church 1317 Centre St. Newton, MA, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA.
