Obituary



William T. "Bill" Murray, age 87, of S. Yarmouth, MA and Sarasota, FL passed away peacefully, January 24, 2017. He was the loving son of the late James and Catherine (Quinn) Murray.

Bill was born in Somerville and raised in Cambridge. He adored his family. His work ethic began at an early age selling newspapers and running his own shoe shine business as a young teen. His favorite job was working the turnstile at Fenway Park thus gaining him access to the games. As a lifelong fan he was beyond thrilled to have lived long enough to see the Red Sox win the World Series, after so many years. He was a true New England sports fan through and through. Bill was a PFC in the US Army. He began his career as a machinist`s apprentice at the Watertown Arsenal, moved on to the National Archives Building, then transferred to Hanscom AFB to work as a civilian in Configuration Management where he eventually became director, and ended his career as an independent consultant to the Air Force. After a humble beginning, and raising four children as a single parent, retirement was very good to him and he enjoy many years on both Cape Cod and Sarasota, FL.

Bill is survived by his children, Donna Sbordone of E. Bridgewater, Laura Murray of Salem, Tiki Murray of Woburn and Michael Murray of Saratoga Springs, NY. Father-in-law of Mi Wah Murray. He was the proud grandfather of six and the grand patriarch and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Brother of the late Marion, Allyn, John, Paul, and Claire.

A memorial service will be conducted in the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Saturday, February 4th, at 3:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family prior to the service starting at 12 p.m. Interment services will be private. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Bill's memory to the American Heart Assoc., 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or American Lung Assoc., 5 Mountain Rd., Burlington, MA 02346-0465.
