Luciano John Malvone, of York, ME, formerly of Medford and Boston’s North End, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 25th at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital. He was 90.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Antonio and Pasqualina (Grecco) Malvone. He served in the United States Navy from December 1, 1944 to August 9, 1946. He served during WWII and earned the WWII Victory Medal, American Area Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal. Following his honorable discharge, Luciano married his wife Alda in 1948 at St. Clement Church in Medford. The two began their life together and built a family around the cornerstones of love and devotion.
Luciano was a facilities manager, and spent his career helping and serving others. After his retirement, Luciano worked at Perkins Cove in Maine and was known as their honorary mayor after his thirteen years of service. He left Perkins Cove in May of 2016.
In his spare time, Luciano enjoyed golfing. He and his North End friends were members of the Caddy Club which he enjoyed very much. Luciano was also a craftsman and enjoyed woodworking. He would see a piece of furniture and go home to recreate it. His woodworking was extended to building his home in Maine with his son Anthony and nephew Joey, back in 1966. He was an artistic man and loved to sing. Luciano was an avid reader and loved all genres, though his favorites were mysteries and war books. At the end of the day he enjoyed watching western films and cowboy movies. Luciano will be remembered as a loving and selfless man, who was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Luciano was the beloved husband of Alda (Carisio) Malvone, with whom he shared sixty-nine loving years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Leonard Malvone and his wife Lucille of Wakefield, Anthony Malvone and his wife Holly of Wilmington, Lucille Miranda of Medford, and a devoted father-in-law to the late Rosemary Malvone. The loving grandfather of Paul Malvone and his wife Patricia of Wilmington, Charles Miranda and his fiancé Liana Runge of Melrose, Jennifer Miranda and her partner John Fazio of Medford, A. Zachary Malvone and his partner Tess Buccigrosso, Hannah Malvone, James Doherty and his wife Jessica, all of Wilmington. He was the loving great grandfather of Ella, Joey, Lily, Brynn and Jamie. The dear brother of Mary Liaosa of FL, he was preceded in death by his siblings Palmina Bath, Leonard Malvone, Margaret Bruno, Rosina Breen, Angelina Conti and Pasquale Malvone. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Tuesday, January 31st at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford, at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 through 8PM. Services will conclude with military honors at St. Clement Church following the Funeral Mass. At the request of the family, interment will be held privately.
