Funeral from the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Monday at 8am. Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Raynham at 9am. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Rockland. Obituary Information
Mr. Belanger died Thursday at the Morton Hospital, Taunton, after a brief period of failing health. Born and raised in Abington, he was the son of the late Eugene H. and Victoria (Gilbert) Belanger. He attended Abington schools, and was a graduate of Abington High School. He was deeply involved in music in the 30’s 40’s and 50’s. As an accomplished clarinet and saxophone player, he played in many well known bands throughout New England. He toured with his own group primarily in the Boston Clubs and the hotel scene. In the 1940’s his music could be heard over WNAC in Boston on a regular radio show. As a member of the Boston Musicians Union, he was considered a master in his field and well respected by his peers and professionals alike. His expertise was later used to teach new musicians the art of music.
Following his music career, Mr. Belanger worked for Lanoue Brothers Shoes in Brockton. He retired from the shoe business and made his home in Taunton with his wife Gladys. He enjoyed playing cribbage, especially with his family. In addition, he enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and compiled his own library of hard-to-find words.
He is survived by his daughter Joan Allen of Plymouth, and three sons, David Belanger, Francis Belanger, Jr. and Donald Belanger all of Brockton. He also leaves 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, and many loving memories.
He was the brother of the late Cecile O’Donnell and Evelyn Donnelly
