Obituary

Boston - Rev. Gerard L.M. Caron, s.m.; 74, a priest in the Society of Mary of Boston, died Monday Nov. 12, 2001 after a brief illness with cancer.

Rev. Caron is survived by five brothers Conrad Caron of Worcester, Roland Caron, Bertrand Caron, Amable Caron and Fernand Caron all of Brunswick, ME; six sisters Irene Fournier of RI, Irma McCarthy, Valeda Caron, Marie Berube, Jeannette Painchaud and Rolande Lavoie all of Brunswick, ME. He also leaves several nephews and nieces. Rev. Caron was born in Albion, RI son of Wilfrid and Marie-Rose (Fortin) Caron and lived in Brunswick, ME and MA for most of his life.

Rev. Caron served in many capacities with the Marist Fathers as both a priest and a pastor. He was also the director of the Third Order of Mary Society for 13 years from 1945 to 1958 serving in the Northern Province of America and Canada. While he was the director of the Third Order of Mary he wrote many books on the life of Mary and St. Joseph. Rev. caron was then assigned to the Marist Lourdes Center of Boston in 1988, he held this position until his retirement.

Rev. Caron is also well known in Lourdes, France after many years of pilgrimages twice a year, for 12 years. He has also become good friends with Cardinal Edward Gagnon of Rome know living in Montreal Canada.

The funeral mass will be on Thursday Nov. 15 at 10:30 AM in the Provincal Church of Marist Society, Our Lady of Victory Church in Boston. The principal celebrant will be the Provincal Superior of the Marist Fathers Rev. kenneth Thibodeau. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery, Brunswick, ME. Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. is directing local arrangements.
