
Martha Ricker Phillips, 93 of Marshfield, and Conway, NH died on December 30,2016 in Hingham. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family members.
She leaves her children, Mary Graham of Scituate Ma ,; John Phillips of Windham ,ME, and Robert Phillips of Framingham , MA; one granddaughter, Megan Papile of Kingston Ma, two great granddaughters , Gemma and Cleo Papile of Kingston MA.; a niece Janet Weinstein of Newfields, NH and nephews Gary Ricker of Berwick, ME ,David Ricker of Somersworth NH, George McCallister of Westborough, MA, Donald Mc Callister of North Oxford, MA and Ian McCallister of Franklin ,MA.
Martha was born in Berwick Maine, graduated as valedictorian from Berwick High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire in Durham. She later received her Ma in education from UNH. For over thirty years she taught home economics at Kennett High School in Conway NH ,where she also made her home. She was an enthusiastic gardener and a life-long lover of the ocean and the mountains. She also enjoyed reading and sewing and cooking. She was an expert at bird identification and behaviors especially hummingbirds and Chickadees, and she knew where to find wildflowers from the first pussy willows of spring to red berries in the fall. Martha was a dedivcated teacher who took pride in the accomplishments of her students. After her retirement she was able to spend more time in the garden and at the beach. She remained active with the retired Teachers Association at Kennett and her many friends and family members. She enjoyed spending much of her time with her granddaughter and later her two great granddaughters.
Services will be held at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Kingston on January 21st at 2:00 PM.
