Roger D. Mercer, 54, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, January 8, 2017, at Regency Hospital in Macon.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla with the Rev. Rex Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Mercer was born September 3, 1962, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, to Glaydine Hutchinson Mercer and the late Roger Nelson Mercer. He was a graduate of Irwin County High School. Mr. Mercer served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, being stationed in Minot, North Dakota. He worked as a police officer with the Ocilla Police Department for 13 years. He worked in manufacturing with Edsco Fasteners in Elba, Alabama. Mr. Mercer returned to the Fitzgerald community seven years ago. He formerly attended Bethel Baptist Church in Kinston, Alabama.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Braiden & Samantha Mercer and Kade Mercer, all of Opp, Alabama; one grandchild on the way; his mother, Glaydine H. Mercer of Tifton; and a sister, Marie Mercer of Tifton.
