Francis J. "Frankie" Mainey Jr., a resident of FT. Myers, Florida and formerly of Charlestown and Melrose, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs, Florida. He was 81 years old.
Frankie was born in Boston on October 8, 1935, a son of the late Francis J. Mainey and Mildred (McKenna) Mainey. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Commerce High School in 1953. Frankie enlisted into the United States Army on January 26, 1955 and served his country faithfully and with courage. He was honorably discharged on January 8, 1958 with the rank of Specialist -3. Frankie worked as a Salesman for General Electric for over 25 years. He was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association and enjoyed reading in his spare time.
Frankie is the devoted father of Laura Mooney and her husband Michael and Joseph Mainey. He is the loving Grandpa to Alyssa Mooney, Caitlin Mooney and her fiancé Michael Masiello and Branden Mainey. He is the beloved brother of Marie Murray and her husband Jack, Ann Mainey, Kathleen McLaughlin, Paul Mainey and his wife Jacquelyn and the late Michael Mainey. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Frankie's Funeral Mass on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 11 A.M. in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown. His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. There are no funeral home visiting hours.
