Stephen S. Medeiros, 89, of Fairhaven died January 4, 2017 at Our Ladys Haven after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Doris (Threlfall) Medeiros and Eileen (Duff) Medeiros.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel S. and Frances (Coelho) Medeiros, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Mr. Medeiros was a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church.
He was formerly employed by Bristol Electronics, and Aerovox before retiring from C.P. Bourg.
Mr. Medeiros was a well known and accomplished trumpet player who played with his band, Steve Medeiros & his Orchestra. He also played with Dartmouth Community Band, JJ & Company, Billy Couto; Jimmy Lomba, Aristocrats, Jimmy Stevens Orchestra, Harold Perry, Tiny Tim, Sammy Davis, Jr., Williamansett Trio, Bob Cosby, Red Fox and Robert Goulet. He also played in clubs in Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe.
He enjoyed dancing and spending time with his family especially his 3 GG's.
His family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Our Ladys Haven, Compassionate Care Hospice and the Providence V.A. Hospital for the excellent care given to Stephen.
Survivors include his son, Stephen Medeiros and his wife Davida of Apopka, FL; a daughter, Joyce Martins and her husband Paul of Sao Miguel, Azores; a step-daughter, Sharon Azevedo and her husband Antonio of New Bedford; a step-son, Wayne Cadieux and his wife Sandra of Dartmouth; a sister, Hilda Mancebo and family of Tulare, CA; a special nephew, Mooney Medeiros of New Bedford; a special friend, Dorothy Caron; 8 grandchildren, Jeremy, David, Heather, Michelle, Amy, Lori, Becky and Marc; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Charles Medeiros, Cecila Pimental and Agnes Moutinho.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 10th at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church at 10 AM. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday, January 9th from 4-8 PM.
