SOGOMON MOVSESIAN (Husband / Father / Grandfather / Great-grandfather)
Born as the younger son of two boys to Arusyak & Grabet Musisoglu in a small historical Greek and Armenian town called "Tokat" located in northeastern part of today's Turkey in 1931(legal paperwork indicates intentionaly 1933, because his father wanted him to go to military service 2 years late!). Since life was very difficult for most Armenians in Anatolia back then, Sogomon perpenantly settled in Istanbul, after luckily completing his mandatorty military service of 2 years in Istanbul, sometime 1949-1950. Then his parents and older brother joined him and they lived many years in the town of Ortakoy / Besiktas. Sogomon married Araksi Divrikli (originally from Yildizeli /Sivas) in 1959 and had 4 children in 6 short years. Sogomon worked in a sheet metal factory, then glassman, painter, etc. for many years to support his family and after loosing his parents and older brother Kevork between 1977 and 1982, and having no more ties left in Istanbul, whole family moved to Watertown between 1985-1990, to learn and start a new way of life. He worked for many years at Sevan Bakery in Watertown till his retirement and meanwhile helped his kids to buy the current 2 family house on Brimmer St.
Unfortunately Sogomon couldn't learn his mother language Armenian, since there were no Armenian schools in Anatolia back then, but made sure all his 4 kids attended Armenian schools in Istanbul. Last 6 years were a continues struggle for him, because of several nursing homes and hospitalization stays for numerous medical problems he had suffered.
Sogomon was not a regular church going man, but he believed in the Armenian church, traditions and culture. In many conversations I could notice his belief and appreciation when he used to say "my life first is in the hand of God, then my daughter Alis". Also he felt he was very happy and blessed by having 4 successful and respectful kids who also spoke Armenian that he couldn't.
Baron Sogomon is survived by wife of 57 years, Araksi Movsesian and son Movses Movsesian of Watertwon; daughter Alis & husband Zadik Ozcan of Waltham; daughter Ani Movsesian of Ft. Launderdale, FL; son Arman & wife Helen Movsesian of Lexington. 4 grandchildren; Anita and Oliver Ozcan of Waltham, Tatyana and Arman Movsesian of Lexington; 2 great grandchildren; Eric and Danielle Ozcan of Waltham.
All in all, Sogomon was a typical old fashion, old country man with little schooling and very stuburn habits of his own. He very much enjoyed playing all kinds of card games, tavloo and domino with whoever came by and gave him the time. He had no envy or jealousy in him toward anything or anybody. Fairly simple man who enjoyed and was satisfied with simple things. After 85 years of simple life in this world he departed to go join his loved ones in the other one... So we the remaining ones pray to our Lord God to bless his soul and grant him eternal life in his heaven. Amen!.. Funeral service at Saint James Armenian Church, 465 Mount Auburn Street, Watertown on Friday, December 30 at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and Friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown.
