Obituary

Lillie T. Woodrum, 96, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at the Osceola Nursing Home.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, August 19, 2005 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Irwin County, with Rev. John Gibbs officiating and eulogy by Marc Atkinson. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mrs. Woodrum was born June 17, 1909 in Irwin County, to the late W.M. “Bill” and Sarah Elizabeth Purvis Tucker. She was a homemaker and had lived in the Irwin community all of her life. Mrs. Woodrum was a 1929 graduate of Ocilla High School and attended Valdosta State College. She was a homemaker, a former School Teacher, having taught at Riverbend, Lax and Holt schools and a former correspondent for the Ocilla Star. Mrs. Woodrum was a life-long member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School Teacher and Director, Church Secretary and Treasurer. She was a former member and director of the WMU, a former member of the Irwin County Home Economic Club, where she was named Woman Of The Year in 1970. She was also an avid quilter.

Mrs. Woodrum is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Nelle & Ira Rowe of Albany and Dianne & Marcellus Atkinson of Hampton; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee Woodrum, a daughter, Lillian Rhodes, a son, Don Woodrum, three brothers and two sisters.
