Virginia (Bizis) Micavich, age 99, died Monday December 5th at Robbins Brook in Acton MA, surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born in Nashua NH, the daughter of the late Michael and Julia Bizis. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1934 and was selected to attend a special program for gifted female high school graduates at Boston University. She married August Micavich on June 19, 1943 and spent the next 61 years living in Methuen MA.
Virginia was a successful business woman who held several key positions in finance at Lawrence Maid and W.R. Grace. She was one of a select group of woman who was able to break through the glass ceiling of Operational Management in Corporate America in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Virginia loved to travel. She closely follow business trends and loved investing in the stock market. She was an avid card player and up to the time of her death would play cribbage each week with a very special friend.
She was predeceased by her husband August who died in 2007 and her son Michael A Micavich MD who died in June, 2014.
She is survived by her Nephew John A. Micavich and his wife Cynthia of Westford Ma, Niece Joyce (Micavich) Hannon and her husband Michael of Melbourne FL and several Grand and Great Nieces and Nephews.
Calling hours will be held Friday, Dec. 9th from 4-7 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St, Methuen, MA.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 10th at 10:30 AM at St. Kathryn’s Church, Hudson, NH. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Hudson, NH.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lungstrong Organization, PO Box 281, Amesbury, Massachusetts 01913. This organization has been funding lung cancer research at Dana Faber Cancer Institute and Massachusetts General Cancer Center. To date, they have raised over 2 Million dollars for lung cancer research. 100% of all donations to Lungstrong go to lung cancer research.
