Katherine (Tower) Gilbert of North Hill, Needham, passed away at the age of 98 on Wednesday, August 10, 2005. She was known as “Betty” from her earliest days. After attending Newton public schools, she graduated from Boston University and studied at Simmons College, receiving her degree in 1929. Her career included many years as a legal secretary at Choate, Hall and Stewart , and several more years as an associate of stock broker Fred Grant. Betty was married to the late Harry G. Gilbert, an attorney for Mobile Oil Company. They had on surviving son, Brooks, who resides in Lake Hughes, CA. Mrs. Gilbert lived on Damien Rd. in Wellesley for most of her married life, then moved briefly to Weston and from there to Wellesley Green. For the last 19 years she has resided at North Hill. Mrs. Gilbert participated in many voluntary organizations, and was an avid golfer at the Wellesley Country Club. She was the favorite senior generation aunt to her several nephews and nieces, and their children and grandchildren; Towers of Wellesley, Acton, Dover, Natick, Newton, Groton, Boston, and Tacoma , Washington; Carters of Bangor Maine and Moyers of Hellertown Pennsylvania. A memorial service will be held on Saturday , September 17, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 258 Concord St. Newton Lowers Falls, at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
