Obituary

Attorney Henry Z. Horn, 77, of New Bedford died on August 15, 2005 at Beverly Manor of Plymouth Nursing Home after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Barbara M. (Stone) Horn, who died on February 20, 2005.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Henri F. and Emilienne A. (Caron) Horn, he had lived in Fall River before moving to New Bedford 39 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church in New Bedford.
Mr. Horn was a graduate of the New York Military Academy in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, Providence College and Boston University School of Law. After graduating from law school, he maintained a private law practice. He was later employed with the Fall River Housing Authority and Urban Renewal Agency as Assistant Director from 1958 to 1965 and as General Counsel from 1962 to 1965. Mr. Horn later began employment with the New Bedford Redevelopment Authority, serving as Deputy Director from 1965 to 1975 and as Executive Director from 1975 to 1985. He also served as Executive Director of the New Bedford Harbor Development Commission from 1980 to 1985. From 1985 until his retirement, Mr. Horn was employed with the Massachusetts Department of Public Works in Boston, as the Administration Manager of Relocation, Property Management, Conveyancing, Negotiations and Clerical sections.
Mr. Horn served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the New Bedford Bar Association, the New Bedford Economic Development Corporation, the New Bedford Historic District Commission, the Waterfront Historic Area League (WHALE) and the Fall River Economic Development Corporation.
Survivors include four sons, David Horn, and his wife Lyndi, of Keene, NH, Michael Horn and Eric Horn, both of Phoenix, AZ, and Christopher Horn, and his wife Karen, of Massachusetts; a daughter, Libby Griffiths, and her husband Andy, of Woodstock, GA; and six grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Susan Ann Horn.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday August 19, 2005 at 9 AM in St. Lawrence Church. Burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River, will be private. Visiting hours will be at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford on Thursday August 18, 2005 from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Jimmy Fund.
