Eileen R. (Tavares) Morse, 78, of New Bedford died peacefully at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home on November 25, 2016. She was the wife of Chester E. Morse, married for 58 years, and traveled with him while he was in the U.S.Army, to North Carolina, Germany and Texas.
Born in Newman, California, the daughter of the late Jose and Theresa Tavares, she moved to New Bedford at 2 years of age and lived most of her life in New Bedford. She graduated from New Bedford High School and attended Kinyon Campbell Business School.
Eileen was formerly employed at Eastern Sportswear and as a church secretary at the International Church of the Nazarene.
In her leisure time she enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting the ocean and reading books on a
long varied list of subjects, including her Christian Faith. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene on Hathaway Road.
She is survived by her husband, her beloved children, daughter Karen Marshall and her husband Peter of Rochester, son Mark Morse and his wife Karen of Sandwich, son Jeffrey Morse and his wife Candy of Florida, her ex-daughter-in-law Joanne Gray and her husband Jeff of West Virginia. She was the proud and loving grandmother of Justin Morse and his wife Maria of Pennsylvania, Nicole Morse of West Virginia, and Anthony Morse of Sandwich, a loving great-grandmother of Rose Marie Morse of Pennsylvania, and aunt to several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of Patricia Ann Soares and sister-in-law of Dixie Tavares. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph R. Tavares.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
