Raynham – Virginia W. (Wambolt) Matteson, wife of the late Douglas L. Matteson for 44 years, died surrounded by her family at Life Care Center in Raynham on Nov. 25, 2016. She was 89.
Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lottie (Haskins) Wambolt.
Mrs. Matteson was educated in Taunton and a graduate of Taunton High School class of 1946. She was employed by Morton Hospital as an administrator for 17 years, retiring in 1987. Mrs. Matteson had a tremendous heart for animals, loved watching western films, a loving and caring mother to her sons and loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include two sons, Bret M. Matteson of Fairhaven and Kirk D. Matteson and his girlfriend Diane Hellwege of Taunton; her late son Bart M. Matteson; brother John Wambolt and his wife Gloria of Taunton; two sisters, Ruth Boulay and Phyllis Enos, both of Taunton; Granddaughter Katie of Virginia Beach; great grandson Eli; a very special thank you to her niece, Michelle and great niece Erin who have gone the extra mile by helping their aunt Virginia. Thank you to her family and friend Erica Lyford and Wendy Brewer.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Thursday, Dec. 1st at 8:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Ann’s Church in Raynham at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 1st from 8:30 – 9:30 prior to her funeral mass.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Matteson’s sons ask that you adopt a homeless pet in her memory to affirm her love and care for animals.
