Obituary

MEDFORD___Joseph F. Pofit, 84, of 132 Sharon St., formerly of Indian Orchard and Worcester died Friday August 12 in Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Medford. His wife, Ruth H. (Tamalavage) Pofit died in 1987.

He leaves four sons, Gregory J. Pofit of Medford; Jeffrey W. Pofit of Haverhill; Joseph F. Pofit, Jr., of Slingerlands, NY. and Gary J. Pofit of Medford; a sister, Regina Nalewajek in Maryland; six grandchildren and nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by three sisters, Elenora Harding, Mary Kowal and Ann Szymkiewicz all of Worcester. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of Konstanty and Frances M. (Braczinski) Pofit and later lived in Indian Orchard and Medford.

Mr. Pofit was a mechanical engineer many years working for the Crane Company in Ludlow and retired in 1986. Before then he worked for the Rockwood Sprinkler Co. in Worcester. He was a graduate of Classical High School, Worcester and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Joseph was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Indian Orchard and was a choral member there. He was also a member of the Ludlow Country Club.

The funeral will be held Wednesday August 17 with a service at 11 a.m. in HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. A calling hour will be from 10 am until the time of the service Wednesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities Emergency Assistance Fund, 40 North Main Ave., Albany, NY, 12203.
