Obituary

CHICOPEE – Leonard A. “Red” Pare, 88, a longtime resident of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, November 21, 2016. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home on Adams Street in the Willimansett section of Chicopee on January 20, 1928, a beloved son of the late Aurore (Labrecque) Pare. He was raised in Chicopee, attended local schools and was a lifelong resident of the city. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and attained the rank of Storekeeper Third Class. Following his military service, he returned to Chicopee and was employed for many years as a Route Salesman. He was a former member of the Chicopee Lodge of Elks 1849. Active in his faith, he was a longtime communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Most of all, he was a quiet man who adored his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Constance B. “Connie” (Brisbois) Pare. They were married on November 23, 1950 at Immaculate Conception Church in Holyoke and were blessed with nearly 66 years of happiness together. Besides his wife, he leaves his two devoted sons, Brian L. Pare and his wife, Barbara, of Chicopee and Wayne A. Pare and his wife, Michelle, of Suffield, CT; his five cherished grandchildren, Andrea Williamson and her husband, Derek, Alicia Pare and her companion, Thomas Valentine, Sean Pare, Joshua Pare and Nicole Pare; his cherished great-grandson, Drake Williamson; his loving brother, Donald Pare and his wife, Delores, of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Pare and Brisbois families. Besides his mother, he was also predeceased by his three loving sisters, Rita Hebert, Loretta Pare and Marcella “Marci” Lupien. His funeral will be held on Saturday morning, November 26, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial with United States Navy Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 25, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
