New Bedford - Ernest "Pee Wee" "Hoppy" Santos, 75, of New Bedford died at St. Luke’s Hospital on August 12, 2005 after a long illness. He was the husband of Vivian E. (Bourgault) Santos.
Mr. Santos was born in New Bedford, son of the late John and Mary (Cardoza) Santos, and was a lifelong resident of the city. The former Chamberlain Mfg. Corp., New Bedford employed him as a forklift operator until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of the Dakota Mounted Patrol, Acushnet and enjoyed auctions. A champion horse rider and trainer in his youth, he carried his love of horses with him throughout his life.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by a daughter: Lisa M. Mena of New Bedford; 3 sons: Gilbert Santos of Westport, Ernest Santos, Jr. of New Bedford and Russell Paul Santos of New Bedford; a sister: Edna M. Sylvia of S. Dartmouth; 7 grandsons; and several nieces & nephews. He was brother of the late Gilbert Santos.
