Delinda M. “Joan” (Teixeira) Mathews, age 98, of Norton, passed away peacefully, with her loving son by her side, on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Wingate at Norton. She was the beloved wife of the late Clarence E. Matt” Mathews, Jr.
Born in Norton, MA on May 13, 1918, she was a daughter of the late John and Maria (Mendes) Teixeira.
Joan grew up in Norton and was a graduate of Norton High School. She was a retired jewelry worker, having worked for the former Bates and Klink Co. in Attleboro for forty years prior to retirement.
Joan had made her home in Norton for most of her life and following her marriage to Matt had also resided in Attleboro for seventeen years. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton and enjoyed sewing, knitting, playing golf, card games and spending time with her adoring family.
She is survived by her loving and devoted son Dennis R. Mathews of Norton. She was the dear sister of Hilda Silvia, Elsie Leach, Nina Gilson, and the late Mary Monteiro, Tony Teixeira, Margaret Cullingworth, Manuel “Cocoa” Teixeira, Joseph Teixeira and John “Tacky” Teixeira. She was the grandmother of Danny, Jackie, Jesse and the Ronald, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend graveside services on Thursday, November 10th at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Center Cemetery, Pine St, in Norton.
