Donald P. Morrison, 88, of Putnam Pike, Greenville, died Saturday, October 29, 2016 surrounded by his family at St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield. He was the husband of the late Shirly H. (Davy) Morrison and Beverly (Pino) Morrison.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Peter and Gladys (Parker) Morrison. He had lived in Smithfield for the past 5 years and had previously lived in Scituate for 35 years. He served in post-war Germany during the early 1950’s in the United States Army.
Donald was a member of Roger Williams Lodge #32, and a member of the first graduating class of Roger Williams Junior College, with an Associate in Science in 1957, and a Bachelor of Science from Roger Williams College in 1979. He was a licensed Professional Engineer and worked at BIF as a systems engineer until retiring in the late 1980’s. He was a lifelong Episcopalian and had attended Messiah Church in Olneyville, Trinity Church in Scituate, Christ Church in Lincoln and most recently was a member of St. Thomas’ Church in Greenville. He was on the board of the North Scituate Library, and was an avid golfer and woodworker. He was an adventurous traveler, and came back from every trip with many stories to share. He enjoyed camping and hiking and was active with the Scituate Little League and Boy Scouts.
One of the most remarkable things about Don was his ability to talk with anyone – about almost anything! He was incredibly well read, especially favoring biographies and history. Don’s family would like to thank all of the staff and his many friends at The Village at Waterman Lake for their love, support and kindness.
He is survived by his children: Rev. Susan M. Carpenter and her husband, Brian of North Scituate, Donald P. Morrison, Jr. and his wife, Noradeen of Fairfield, CT, Judi A. Mitchell and her husband, Harry of Franklin, MA, his seven grandchildren: Scott Carpenter, Peter Carpenter and his wife, Bethany, Olivia and Alexandra Morrison, Cassandra, Jonathan and Joseph Mitchell, his two great grandsons: Nathan and Joshua Carpenter and his sister, Dorothy M. Boutelle of Smithfield.
His funeral service will be held Monday November 7th at 11:00am in St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, Rts 44 & 116, Greenville. Visitation will be held Sunday November 6th from 4-7pm in Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Don had many fond memories of the carillon and bells in the bell tower, so in lieu of flowers, his wishes were for donations to be made to the Capital Campaign Fund of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, PO Box 505, Greenville, RI 02828
