Obituary

Anthony “Tony” Cortese Sr., 92 of Somerville died Thursday after a brief illness in the Massachusetts General Hospital Boston, MA.

Born in Italy, he lived in Somerville for the past 80 years and also lived in Bourne for the past 45 years. Tony was the son of the late Palma (Catizano) and Peter Cortese.

Anthony was a Tailor for many years and retired in 1970 from Grecco Brothers Clothing. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans of Somerville. Tony’s hobbies were making wine and his vegetable garden. He also enjoyed claming and fishing.

Beloved husband of late Concetta (Antonuccio) Cortese. Devoted father of Anthony J. Cortese and his wife Sandra M. of Pocasset, Carmen N. Cortese and his wife Janet of Wellesley. Loving grandfather of Christine Cohen, Michael, Catherine, Anthony and the late AJ Cortese. Brother of Nicholas Cortese of Boston, Dominic Cortese of Winchester, Gloria Romano of Saugus, Angelina Gurney of Binghamton, NY and the late Rose Damato, Russell and Frank Cortese.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Monday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Benedict Church, 21 Hathorn St., Somerville at 10 AM.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Visiting hours Sunday 4 thru 8.

Services will conclude with burial at Oakland Grove Cemetery, Bourne.
