Worcester- Stephen P. Bernier, 51, of 142 Wildwood Ave., died Wednesday, August 10, in his home after an illness.
He leaves his wife and soulmate of 10 years, Margaret A. (Vachon) Bernier; two sons, Craig S. Bernier and his wife Shelly of Brookfield and Eric S. Bernier of Westborough; three daughters, Candy Y. Bernier, Jean L. Bernier, and Jessica Y. Bernier, all of Charlton; two step-sons, Ryan W. Scholl and Nickolaus J. Scholl, both of Worcester; his mother, Elizabeth M. (Snow) Bernier of Manchaug; two brothers, Richard L. Bernier of Manchaug and Robert S. Bernier of Virginia; two sisters, Phyllis A. Lachance of Cherry Valley and Jean M. Stiles of Georgia; a grandson, Saige Stephen Bernier of Brookfield; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Leo H. Bernier and lived here most of his life. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School and attended Columbus College in Georgia and Quinsigamond Community College.
Mr. Bernier was a self-employed construction project manager. Previously he was a project manager for Quality Contracting Inc. of Worcester. He specialized in renovations and commercial projects.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving with the Corps of Engineers in Korea. He was a member of the Gateway Players, and since 1998, was a licensed private pilot who enjoyed taking aerial photographs.
The funeral will be held Monday, August 15, from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., with a Mass at 9:30 in St. Joseph’s Church, 35 Hamilton St. Burial will be in Cherry Valley Cemetery, Leicester. Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 14, in the funeral home. The family requests that flowers be omitted and contribution in Stephen’s memory be made to VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608.
