Elia C. (DiMatteo) Gasbarri, a lifelong Newton resident, died Wednesday Aug. 10, 2005 at The Stone Institute in Newton Upper Falls. She was 89.
Born in Newton she graduated from Newton High School, and had worked as a long distance operator for New England Telephone Co. in Newtonville for over 20 years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Lake Shore Bowling League. She loved cake decorating, gardening, and stenciling chairs and trays.
Wife of the late Dario A. Gasbarri, she is survived by her daughters Daria Anderson and her husband Stephen of Framingham, and Elaine Carroll and her husband Alfred of Newton, her grandchildren Lauren Marchetti and her husband Christopher of Framingham, and Eric Anderson of Huntington Beach, CA, her sister Lydia Lanzafame of Natick, and her great grandchildren John and Kate Marchetti. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Fred DiMatteo, George DiMatteo, and Robert DiMatteo.
Relatives and friends will gather at the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave. Needham on Sat Aug 13 at 9 AM and proceed to Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church Needham at 10 AM. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. Visiting hours will be in the funeral home on Fri from 4-8 PM.
