Thomas J. Moakley (ret Chief Court Officer, Suffolk Superior Court), of Braintree, but forever from South Boston, surrounded by his family, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, after a brief illness. Tom was born in Boston 87 years ago, raised and educated in South Boston and graduated from South Boston High School. He was a WWII Coast Guard veteran. He joined the Boston Police Dept. where he served for 16 years and later was employed by the Suffolk Superior Court as the Chief Court Officer, retiring after 33 years. Tom’s quiet presence, smile, guidance and love were far reaching. He is survived with dedicated unending love by his wife of 64 years, Doris P. (Kearns). Devoted father of Jack and his wife, Liz of Falmouth, Thomas and his wife, Kathy of Weymouth and Janet Moakley of Braintree, Patty Hamel and her husband, Gordon of VA and Donna Devin and her husband, Chuck of Scituate. Cherished grandfather of Mike, Joe and Molly Kate Devin, Parker, Paul and Ryan Hamel & his wife, Samantha, John, Dan and Thomas Moakley. Brother of the late Joe and Bob Moakley.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth Saturday morning at 9:30. Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton Friday 4 to 8PM. Burial in Village Cemetery, Weymouth. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to Marge Crispin Center, 74 Pond St., Braintree 02184.
