Edward H. Carpenter, 88, of Stoneham, MA died Monday, August 8, 2005 in the Lahey Clinic, Burlington, MA after a period of failing health. He was born on October 6, 1916 in Syracuse, NY, a son of the late Walter and Marion (Bascom) Carpenter. He had been a resident of Stoneham for the past 60 years. Following his graduation from Malden High School, he attended Cornell University and served in the Army during World War II. He was employed by Sears, Roebuck & Company for more than 40 years as an account representative, establishing catalogue stores throughout the region. In retirement, he was an active member of the Sears Retiree Association. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Stoneham and the Aleppo Shrine of North Reading. Mr. Carpenter was an active outdoors man and enjoyed snow skiing, fishing and golf. To keep active in retirement he worked at furniture restoration and developed a reputation for craftsmanship in the art of caning. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 62 years, Genevieve (Skibb) Carpenter on December 12, 2002.
Family members include a daughter, Elizabeth Carpenter Tice of Andover, MA, a son, Bruce C. Carpenter of Holderness, NH, four grandchildren, Alexandra Tice of Boston, MA, Lauren Carpenter and Craig Carpenter, both of Holderness, NH and Kimberlee Miyahira of Arizona.
Calling hours were in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH on Friday, August 12th from 9 to 10:30 AM. The funeral was held in the First Parish Church, 47 East Derry Rd, Derry at 11 AM. Burial followed in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry.
