LONGMEADOW – Frances C. “Fran” (Clune) McGarry, 87, of Longmeadow, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, October 16, 2016. She passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born in Springfield on January 3, 1929, a beloved daughter of the late Walter A. and Delia (Moriarty) Clune. She was raised in Springfield and graduated from Classical High School in Springfield. She later attended the College of Our Lady of the Elms in Chicopee and Springfield Technical Community College. In 1952, Fran moved to Longmeadow where she lived the remainder of her life. She was employed as a business clerk at Western Mass Electric for many years and later for Man Power. She was a longtime communicant of Saint Mary Church in Longmeadow. She was a founding member of Franconia Golf Course’s 9-Hole Golf League in Springfield and also was a member of Oak Ridge Golf Club in Feeding Hills along with her husband. Their shared passion for golf led them to vacations at many well-known resorts in the United States and included trips to Bermuda, Ireland and Portugal. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Robert Joseph McGarry who was Called Home on February 2, 2016. They were married on February 4, 1956 at Saint Mary Church in Longmeadow and were blessed with 60 years of happiness together. Besides her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by her dear brother, Robert B. Clune. She leaves her loving daughter, Christine J. DesLauriers and her husband, Richard, of Franklin, MA; her cherished grandson, Stephen R. DesLauriers of Franklin, MA; her dear brother, Walter R. Clune of Springfield; her dear sister, Christine A. Clune of Longmeadow; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the McGarry and Clune families. Her family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers, Jayne and Nicole from Ascend Hospice for the compassionate care that they provided to Fran. Her family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday afternoon, October 22, 2016 at 12 Noon at Saint Mary Church, 519 Longmeadow Street, Longmeadow, MA 01106. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Longmeadow Cemetery, 31 Williams Street, Longmeadow, MA 01106. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
