Richard “Rich” T. Metzmeier, 38, passed on to his heavenly father on October 4th, 2016.
Richard attended St Lawrence Grade School, was a graduate of Butler High School and attended the University of Louisville. At Butler he was fond of soccer and excelled at tennis. He obtained his CMA and worked in several Louisville nursing homes until he was disabled by major back surgery.
Unable to work outside the home Rich turned to another passion and focused his love for cats into a full time hobby. He and his wife, Tay began fostering the little kittens. He worked with Louisville’s Animal House and took in many of the neglected and abandoned little babies. Over the course of the last five years they fostered dozens of momma cats and their babies, even helping to deliver some of the kittens. The hardest part was always giving them up when they reach adoptable age. And as it was, there were a few that he could not part with and kept them. He was so passionate that he even built a shelter in his backyard that is visited by several feral cats.
Rich is survived by his wife, Tay; his son, Kolten; his parents, Steve and Claudia; and his brother, Don (Jill). He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and many cousins.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy. and after 9 a.m. Monday morning with the funeral service at 11 am. Burial will be at Resthavan Memorial Cemetery, 4400 Bardstown Road.
Memorial gifts may be made to his son’s Trust Fund.
