Obituary

Roberta Marie Molina Maddox ended her earthly journey at 8:55 PM on October 1,2016. Her sister Marie holding one hand, Her Aunt Dora holding the other, two of her closest friends, Margaret and Cecie on each side and her Goddaughter affectionately rubbing her foot as Roberta did for her as a child. There is no doubt in any of our minds she would have been there for us.
Roberta was born on April 15, 1953. The same year as Tinkerbell hence Berta being such a fan of Tink! Her parents, Nellie and Sam were always very proud of their feisty little one. Nellie would’ve been proud of the fight Berta had in her until the very end.
Roberta attended Holy Cross and Ventura High School. She always had a ton of friends and was affectionately known as “Little Roberta” because of her petite stature. When they said big surprises in small packages I’m guessing they had her in mind.
A lifelong resident of Ventura, Roberta was very proud to be a Chumash Indian! In the 80’s it wasn’t uncommon to see Roberta riding her 10 speed bike all over Ventura. Known by many of her friends as “Gypsy”, Roberta was rarely in one place for long. She was always on the go! She took several trips up and down the California coast with her Goddaughter this year as well as numerous trips with friends.
She loved music and dancing! She met many of her lifelong friends while out dancing. If Berta had a new favorite song, everyone knew. She would play that song on repeat for days! Roberta also enjoyed concerts. From Country concerts to Heavy Metal shows, she loved it all. She saw 4 shows this year, 2 of which were on her bucket list!
Known by many of her niece’s and nephew’s friends as either “Tia” or “Nina”, everyone loved that little lady! Roberta was very special to all of her nieces and nephews. She did not have a favorite. She loved them all equally but had unique relationships with each one. Several of her nieces have lost a best friend in this amazing woman. This includes her great niece Hailey who considered Tia her very best friend.
Tia had her go-to sayings that we will never forget. The numerous times she would call and simply say “Yo Mama” or “See ya wouldn’t wanna be ya!” Some of her nieces fondly remember her rocking out in her car tapping the steering wheel shouting out “Woo Honey!” when she was really feeling a song.
Nina was the “ULTIMATE” best friend. Whether you needed company on a road trip, or you needed someone to lend an ear, she was always there. Here mere presence was soothing. She had many, many close friends. One friend in particular she considered a sister. Her “Margie”! Those two were an incredible example of friendship. Margaret, you walked side by side with Nina through some pretty tough times. You also showed her some of the best times of her life. Thank you for loving her and ALWAYS being there for her.
Roberta is survived by her father, Samuel R. Molina, Sister, Marie Rivera (Danny), Brother, Frank Molina, numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins as well as countless friends.
She joins her mother Nellie Molina and brothers Sam and Robert Molina in eternal rest.
