Priscilla Alden (Fish) Strand of Mystic, died August 3rd.
She was born in New London on May 20, 1941 the daughter of the late William G. and Agnes L. (Lathrop) Fish. She lived essentially her entire life on the family property on River Road in Mystic. She was a direct descendant of John Fish, who settled in Mystic in 1654 and with his son Samuel acquired the property which remains in the family today.
She was educated in the Groton School System, graduating from Fitch Senior High School in 1960. She married Carl A. Strand, Jr. on April 14, 1962 in in Mystic. Mr. Strand survives her.
She was involved with child care for over 22 years, touching many young lives. She loved plants as well as children and maintained extensive gardens at her home. Her bait pot at the bridge on River Road was a fixture for both parents and children as well as local fishermen.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Helen McDonnell and son Carl Strand III, grandchildren, Leia and Tate McDonnell, sisters Elizabeth Foster and Marjorie Robinson, brother William Fish Jr. and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at Union Baptist Church in Mystic on Monday at 11am. Interment in the Fish Cemetery will take place at a later date. There are no visiting hours. The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic is assisting the family.
A memorial fund in her name has been established for the children’s programs at The Union Baptist Church.
