Patrick F. Doherty, age 80, of Walpole died Wednesday, August 3, at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Born in Boston on July 10, 1925, he was the son of the late John F. and Mary (Hegarty) Doherty.
He was the husband of Rose-Marie (Calligan) Doherty and had been employed by the City of Boston as a School Custodian for 40 years before his retirement. During part of that time, he served as President of the City of Boston Custodians Association.
Patrick had been a member of the Knights of Columbus, Rose Croix Council in Roxbury, and a member of the Holy Name Society and a Parish Council member at Sacred Heart Church in Roslindale before moving to Walpole and becoming a member of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament.
He served as a Sonorman 2nd Class in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
In addition to has wife, he is survived by a son - Patrick F. Doherty Jr. of Dedham, daughters - Martha J. Weinrebe of W. Roxbury, Mary J. Hart of Moultonboro, NH, Carolyn L. Pilanen of Beverly and Eleanor A Doherty of Hyannis, and sisters - Rose Doherty and Theresa Mason both of Brockton. He was predeceased by a brother - John J. Doherty and sisters - Mary J. O’Brien and Beatrice Amrhein. He was the grandfather of 9 and the greatgrandfather of 5.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 5 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM in the Tracy Funeral Home, 45 Common St., WALPOLE. Relatives and friends are invited.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Church of the Blessed Sacrament (Diamond St., Walpole) on Saturday at 10 AM followed by interment in St. Francis Cemetery, Walpole.
