Obituary

Holden - Elizabeth "Betsy Ross" McGinnes, 85, of Reservoir Street, Holden passed away peacefully at the Christopher House of Worcester on Friday, September 16, 2016. She was the widow of William McGinnes. Born and raised in the small village of Kilsyth, Scotland, just outside of Glasgow, Betty was the daughter of Mary (McWhinnie) and John Ross. Betty came to America through Boston Harbor in 1952 and became a citizen of the USA on Dec. 9, 1965. She sang in the choir at Greendale People's Church in the early 70's and enjoyed Scottish music. She loved making her famous Scottish shortbread and giving it to all her friends. She leaves her beloved family: daughter, Linda (McGinnes) Curtin and her husband Jeff; sister, Christine Ross and her husband Marty; brother-in-law, Bob McGinnes; 3 sons, Peter and his wife Cyndi of Maine, David of Holden, and Ross of Clinton and his son, Kyle; 9 grandchildren-Chrissy, John, Katie, Taylor, Shannon, Conner, Sara, Ian, and Heather.

The remains will be sent back to Scotland to be with her "Bill" in the hills above Kilsyth. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester is assisting the family with arrangements.
