Obituary

Joseph A. Monaco died peacefully at home. He was 85. Born and raised in Medford, he was the son of the late Frank and Rosina (Giglio) Monaco. After graduating high school, Joe served in the Army during the Korean War. He owned and operated the Highland Lounge in Somerville for several years and then the Station Restaurant in Teele Square Somerville, until his retirement. Joe was proud of his family and friends. Though he recently moved to Winthrop he was also proud to have lived most of his life in Medford.


The beloved husband of the late Thelma (DiPaola), he was the devoted father of the late Frank Monaco also the devoted father of Thomas P. Coleman and his wife Suzanne of Medford and Marblehead. He was a dear brother of Marie Connerty of Stoneham and the late Gerald Monaco. He was a devoted uncle to Thomas Monaco and his wife Heather and is also survived by many dear nieces, nephews and friends.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Wednesday, September 21 at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford, at 11 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday, 4 - 8.
