Obituary

James Fletcher Meders, 76, of Rocky Point, North Carolina passed gently from his earthly life on Saturday, September 17, 2016, with his beloved family at his bedside at The Village on Campbell in Burgaw, North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw, North Carolina. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016, at Omega Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. The Rev. Joseph L. Crumley will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday, September 23, 2016, from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Born March 22, 1940 in Omega, Mr. Meders was the son of the late Henry C. and Addie Lee Fletcher Meders. He was also preceded in death by four sisters.

As an accomplished auto paint and body man, James’ working career spanned many years until his health no longer permitted him to work.

James loved his family; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought great joy into his life. His vibrant, joking personality endeared James to both family and friends. Favorite pastimes were spending time with family and watching Walker Texas Ranger. Cherished memories of James will always remain in our hearts.

James is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Faye Newbern Meders of Rocky Point, North Carolina; his children and their spouses, Jimmy F. Meders of Jackson, Stacey L. and Alison Meders of Atkinson, North Carolina, Laurie M. and Chuck Roder of High Springs, Florida and Leigh M. and Tony Pittman of Rocky Point, North Carolina; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifton “Hank” and Linda Meders and Walter and Susan Meders; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Helen and Steve Revels and Carol Jean Meders; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
