Obituary

NEW BEDFORD – Samuel W. Christopher, 98 of South Dartmouth passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Hathaway Manor. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth J. (Hollingsworth) Christopher.

Born in Fall River, son of the late Ethelbert and Angelina (Wolstenholme) Christopher, he grew up in Westport, graduated from Westport High School. He lived in Dartmouth since 1950 where he raised his family. He was predeceased by brothers, Charles and Albert and sisters, Caroline and Lena. He is survived by sister, Evelyn Boyles of Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by daughter, Charlotte L. Holmes and her companion John Webster III of Fairhaven and son David A. Christopher of New Bedford, grandchild Kathleen Kruse, great-grand children, Jared and Jacob Zaworski and three great-great grandchildren, all of Florida.

He was honorably discharged from the Army preceding World War II and served in the Pacific in the United States Maritime Service as a Lt. J.G. After the War he made his career in the Merchant Marine as a licensed chief engineer aboard various vessels.

In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated and buried next to his wife in Beech Grove Cemetery in Westport.
